Ladybird Training, Baucau, September 2004
As part of a strategy to combat the widespread Coconut Scale pest in the Baucau region, Integrated Pest Management advisor Dr. Mark Ritchie, and his national counterpart, Mr. Americo Brito, organized a workshop to train agricultural extension workers how to introduce ladybirds - a natural predator - into the environment. |

In the field, Mr. Brito (Dr. Ritchie's national counterpart) helps an extension worker to collect ladybirds for later release in a new area. |

Once caught, the ladybird is transferred for storage in a pooter. |

The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates of completion, presented by Mr. Abilieu Hornai, Agricultural Coordinator for Baucau.
